"White Sand Harbour" ~ Cubitt Creek ~ Potomac River
White
Sand Harbour lives up to it's name, boasting a 1,400 ± foot long white
sand beach in a five acre park on the wind-tossed shores of the Potomac River.
This 165-lot subdivision is situated in Northumberland County, Virginia and is
bordered by Cubitt Creek on the West and the Potomac River on the North. It
also encompasses 27-acre Lowe's Pond, that is slightly tidal with a strong
fresh-water inflow, supporting an interesting mix of species including
saltwater Blue Crabs and freshwater Large Mouth Bass. This very fine beach now
has a series of new off-shore breakwaters for protection. There is a picnic
area and a tether ball court on the beach. This long, sand spit lies between
Lowe's Pond and the River and continues down to a meandering channel that leads
into Cubitt Creek, which makes a friendly place for young toddlers to splash
around in the gentler waters of the inlet.
There is a boat ramp for
launching non-fossil-fuel boats into Lowe's pond on White Sand Harbor Drive.
There is also a ramp for launching boats into saltwater Cubitt Creek, located
on Cubitt Court. Cubitt Creek is a large tidal creek, 1.5 ± miles long,
with a shallow sandbar at it's mouth into the Potomac River. You can boat
within the creek, but do not have boating access to the Potomac River. There
are several marinas nearby where you can keep a boat in a slip, or launch a
trailered vessel into the Bay, if desired. This community also has two fenced
tennis courts, and an RV campground with a brand new bath house. Property
Owners Association fees are $140.00 a year for a house, and slightly less for
an unimproved lot. The nearest grocery store is the Food Lion in Heathsville,
where you can grab a gourmet meal at
Hughlett's Tavern. There are also several restaurants in Burgess, and in
nearby Reedville.
