"Coles Point Cottage" ~ Potomac River ~ Vintage 50's Cottage
Coles
Point Cottage offers wide views of the Potomac River from a bulkheaded
shoreline and beachfront. Linger over your morning coffee on the waterfront
porch to start your day with sparkling, wide, River views and the salty tang of
breezes off the Chesapeake Bay. This classic 1950's cottage offers one-floor
living and comes fully furnished for immediate, turn-key recreation, and fresh
interior painting imbues this home with a light cottage style.
The Great
Room features wall-to-ceiling glass doors opening to a wrap-around waterside
Screened Porch. There is a greeen-enamelled radiant-heat gas stove to cozy-up
those winter days at the beach. The Galley-Style Kitchen and Dining Area are
open to the Living Area for uninterrupted river views. There's even a
full-sized clothes washer and dryer tucked into a utility closet. A newer
addition hosts two Guest Bedrooms and a full Bath, where pull-down stairs
provide ample Attic storage. An Owner's Suite is situated in a private wing off
the Living Area and includes a newly updated private Bath with
Shower.
This cottage is perched on a sloping lot with a walk-out
basement/crawl space on the East side, providing great storage for kayaks and
sand-castle pails. A shaded path leads to a concrete patio beside the river,
with a sandy shoreside fire-pit, a great setting for a couple of lounging chairs to enjoy the sunset and the
slow, subsequent revelation of the Milky Way. Several mature hardwoods and tall pines provide a canopy of shade over the house and yard. There is a small detached tool
shed. The house has vinyl siding with window shutters, and a private well and
water system. There is sewer service available and the tap fee has been paid,
but the house is currently using it's pre-existing septic system. The sewer fee
is $32.00 a month.
This cottage uses electric baseboard heat, which
enables you to heat just the rooms you are using. There is a wall-unit air
conditioner and ceiling fan in the Great Room, and window air conditioners and
ceiling fans for the bedrooms. Try sleeping with the doors and windows wide
open to let the river breezes blow through while you relax to the lulling sounds of
the surf.
If you'd like to have a protected harbor for your boat, there is a full-service marina just 2 miles away at Coles Point Plantation, where there's also a swimming pool available.
