The Northern Neck region of Virginia fronts on the Chesapeake Bay and lies between the Potomac River and the Rappahannock River. The region extends to include the Middle Peninsula which lies between the Rappahannock River and the York River, covering literally thousands of miles of coastline from the sandy bayfront to the teeming tidal marshes at the upper reaches of the tributary creeks and rivers. Lancaster County itself features 286 ± miles of shoreline.
