The Northern Neck region of
Virginia fronts on the Chesapeake Bay and lies between the
Potomac River and the Rappahannock River. It boasts scenic
beauty, rural spaciousness, low taxes, and a sophisticated
retirement community. Our population includes many very
accomplished people from all walks of life, some retired
from government service in the northern Virginia area, but
including many from as far away as Michigan, California,
and Texas.
The Northern Neck waterfront is dotted
with a variety of vacation and year-round homes, including
many charming, turn of the century, clapboard farmhouses
with their characteristic raised-seam tin roofs; and also
some of Virginia's crown jewels - historic homes dating
from the 17th and 18th centuries.
The region
extends to include the Middle Peninsula which lies between
the Rappahannock River and the York River, covering
literally thousands of miles of coastline from the sandy
bayfront to the teeming tidal marshes at the upper reaches
of the tributary creeks and rivers. Lancaster County itself
features 286 ± miles of shoreline.
